was kinda bored today, so i was searching the Laws Of Singapore some of which had caught my eye was the Internal Security Act "Right to arrest and detain individuals without trail" this Act is cool =D so let the boost of GK begin! =D Internal Security Act (Singapore)From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaThe Internal Security Act (ISA) of Singapore[1] confers on the government the right to arrest and detain individuals without trial in certain defined circumstances. The legislation originated in the wake of World War II, when a number of countries around the world introduced legislation that severely curtailed the rights of known or suspected communists. The most notable ISA case was the Operation Coldstore in 1963 which led to the arrest of some 100 left-wing politicians and trade unionists, including members of the opposition party Barisan Sosialis who were opposing Singapore's merger with Malaysia. While the ISA has not been invoked in recent years against political opponents, the continued existence of ISA is perceived as restricting political opposition and criticism of the government. Criminal lawThe criminal law of Singapore is largely statutory in nature. The general principles of criminal law, as well as the elements and penalties of common criminal offences such as homicide, theft and cheating, are set out in the Penal Code.[92] Other important offences are created by statutes such as the Arms Offences Act,[93] Kidnapping Act,[94] Misuse of Drugs Act[95] and Vandalism Act.[96] In addition, there is a perception that Singapore society is highly regulated through the criminalization of many activities which are considered as fairly harmless in other countries. These include failing to flush toilets after use, littering, jaywalking, the possession of pornography and the sale of chewing gum. Nonetheless, Singapore is one of the countries with the least crime in the world, with a low incidence of violent crimes. Singapore retains both corporal punishment (in the form of caning) and capital punishment (by hanging) as punishments for serious offences. For certain offences, the imposition of these penalties is mandatory. links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Singaporeyou can also view http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_Code_(Singapore)for the Penal Code Of Singapore! -------------------------------------------------------
